Substage 0.8.2

Substage is one of the most clever AI-powered utilities that I’ve used on my Mac so far. The app uses AI to translate natural language prompts into Terminal commands, simplifying the process of manipulating files. The clever bit is that instead of navigating to a different app to manage your files, Substage comes to the user, right in Finder.

1.Select files, enter prompt
Just tell Substage what you want to do with the files you have selected.

2.Substage generates a command
Using an AI model such as GPT 4.1 mini, it creates a command to be run on your Mac’s terminal.

3.Confirm if necessary
Substage evaluates the risk of running the command and might require confirmation to proceed. You can sanity check the command if you’d like.

Any output is boiled down into a summary of what happened.

• NEW: Substage Predicts - Command Preview and Risk Controls: Substage now previews exactly what a command will do before it runs. You'll see a clear breakdown of any file changes: what's being moved, renamed, or possibly overwritten, so you can catch mistakes early. This is powered by a brand-new analyser that safely simulates almost every bash command, making Substage far more intelligent and trustworthy. ● Risk controls: You can now choose which types of commands should run automatically, like harmless metadata checks or safe file creation - right from the Auto-Run settings.
• NEW: Extension System - Leaner App, On-Demand Tools: Substage now includes a new extension system that can automatically install extra components when needed, always with your permission. • Fix for Substage interfering with Quick Look (especially on desktop)
• Fix for Sustage becoming permanently detached from Finder after a Finder relaunch (this was common when using Substage to change system settings, such as hidden file visibility)
• The prompt field is now left-aligned. Just like a normal text field. This one took months of design work to get right.
